Traditional Cypriot Breakfast Goodies Galore!
Tasked with breaking the fast of your nighttime slumber to reignite and re-energise your body’s functions, it is no wonder that breakfast is hailed as being the most important meal of the day.
Of course, eating breakfast like a king can sometimes be trying when you are on the go and in a rush to get to work, school drop-off, or class.
Luckily, Columbia Beach Resort knows a thing or two about crafting a sumptuous breakfast that can’t help but inspire guests to slow down, and indulge in a plateful (or two!) of lavish breakfast fare.
And in keeping with discovering the culture of our host island, we’ve selected a few standout traditional Cypriot goodies to sample as you make your way around Bacchus or Atrium’s breakfast buffets…
Halloumi:
This is an easy one: you simply cannot visit Cyprus without sampling its famed semi-hard, salt-seasoned, mint-infused cheese. Whether enjoyed grilled, or baked in a loaf, halloumi’s distinct flavour has enthralled the appetite of the masses Europe-wide.
Olive Bread:
The stalwart olive tree (and all of its associated produce) is of great importance in Cyprus. Revered for its health properties, the olive is intricately woven into Cypriot cuisine. Don’t miss Columbia Beach Resort’s olive bread: filling and flavoursome!
Carob Syrup:
Native to the Mediterranean region, the carob tree has been cultivated in Cyprus for thousands of years, with the island once having served as an important site of carob trading, hence the development of its epithet, the ‘black gold of Cyprus’. Forgo maple syrup, and instead drizzle a generous dose of carob syrup on your fluffy pancakes or crispy waffles: you won’t be disappointed.
Honey:
Cyprus is proud of its long-standing tradition of making award-winning honey. Being home to some 2000 variety of flora – including thyme, eucalyptus, and orange blossom – the island gives rise to honey infused with distinct aromas, flavours, and textures. There are even family-run businesses and hobbyists in our very own Pissouri that engage in the art! Use our locally-sourced honey instead of sugar to sweeten your cereal, and check out details of Columbia Beach Resort’s Bee-lieve Initiative in discovering just how important our little buzzy friends are to the world’s food supply.
