Traditional Cypriot Melomakarona
Melomakarona Ingredients:
– 250 g olive oil
– 250 g corn oil
– 125 g orange soft drink
– 1 t/s orange zests
– 1/2 t/s cinnamon powder
– 1/2 t/s clove powder1 t/s baking soda
– 2 t/s baking powder
– 50 g brandy250 g sugar
– 1 kg flour
For the syrup:
– 500 g honey
– 125 g sugar
– 125 g water
To garnish:
– 250 g walnuts
Preparation:
– Bring to boil the ingredients for the syrup and allow to cool.
– Mix all of the ingredients together for the melomakarona until they are mixed well.
– Divide the mixture and make them into small oval shapes and place them on the baking tray covered with greaseproof oven paper.
– Bake for 20 minutes at 160 degrees Celsius
– Whilst the melomakarona are still hot, dip them into the syrup for 1 minute.
– Finally, garnish them with the crushed walnuts.
